Thrilled to write a blog on how to perfect your Christmas party look for the lovely ladies at LC Makeup.
Christmas is one of those times when we tend to get a bit over excited with our make up. We’ve had a drink (or two), the party frocks have come out and before we know it, we’re doused in glitter and look like we’ve had a fight with a fairy.
Unless you work in events, cabin crew or are on Love Island, you are unlikely to wear a full face of make up that often, which can mean we tend to go a bit all out during the festive season. It’s wonderful to get dressed up and feel a bit glam, particularly if you have been stuck in an office or week or wrangling small children, but as with many things in life, less is definitely more. You can achieve a stunning and sophisticated party look with heaps of ‘va va voom’ without feeling like you have to use your entire makeup bag.
The general rule of thumb is to either go for a bold eye or a bold lip. If you love the smokey, sultry look with lashings of mascara then go for a quieter lip colour, and if you are a red lip kind of gal then choose more neutral shades for the eyes. Charlotte Tilbury’s excellent, long wearing eye palettes are perfect for creating both looks and you can mix, match and layer the shades to build your own unique look. For a more budget option, the ever reliable Rimmel does a wonderful selection of eye palettes covering virtually every colour under the sun.
For the lips, you can never go wrong with Mac’s Ruby Woo. It’s a lipstick that remarkably suits most people, whatever their skin tone, and has excellent staying power. Alternatively, a red from Chanel like the classic Pirate or the recently launched Rouge Allure No. 4 will not only only look gorgeous, but will help to make you feel ultra glam while applying it. If you want the softer look then go for a nude – it will help to compliment your smoky eye while giving you a bit of moisture and pout. Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk regularly sells out for a reason: it’s the perfect my-lips-but-better shade. Back on the high street, Maybelline’s Super Stay Matte Ink in Poet is a beautiful pinky beige and it’s long lasting formula will last you through the night without breaking the bank.
And while we’re not going to go too crazy, a little bit of sparkle and shine would help lift your look and make your face glow under all those twinkly lights. For eyes, Mac’s brilliant Dazzleshadow Liquid gives just the right about of shimmer to brighten up your look and it comes in nine delicious shades. For cheek and brow bones and anywhere else you like to apply highlighter, Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powder is a bestseller and gives a beautiful soft focus glow, while new hip brand Glossier has the fantastic Haloscope stick which not only highlights but moisturises too with its solid oil core.
